About

Is your child frustrated or struggling with GSCE or A level chemistry?

Are they spending long hours revising chemistry and yet their grades do not reflect the hard work?

Are they lacking motivation?

I'm here to help

My name is Mary Kyobula. Also known by my nickname Mariah.

I tutor GCSE and A level chemistry.

My aim is to teach chemistry in a very simplified way, eliminate the belief that chemistry is difficult and inspire the young generation to pursue a career in science

I believe that every child can excel in chemistry if they are given the right support.

It does not matter what community, race, gender, or financial background they come from.

Humble beginnings

Having migrated from Uganda to the UK on my own without a family, I struggled financially and emotionally.

I was constantly challenged from all aspects, living from hand to mouth, worrying about merely everything, but I was never disheartened.

I simply trusted my faith and embraced my new environment.

If you are a first-generation migrant and more so with no family in the UK this will resonate with you.

A second chance

As a young migrant, in 2002, I quickly realised that I was in a country full of unlimited opportunities.

For me it was like having a second chance to live.

Education remained a primary focus, I combined full time education with full time employment right from my early years of education throughout the university.

I loved sciences and maths. I found chemistry really fascinating and naturally gravitated towards it.

I was so lucky to have had a chemistry teacher who believed in my ability, inspired me, and encouraged me to follow my dream.

I went on to obtain a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Warwick and a PhD from the University of Nottingham.

Whilst undertaking my degree I worked with outreach programmes to offer one to one academic support to children in underperforming primary schools and from privileged backgrounds.

Now I look back in amazement.  I know I have been blessed by God.

I am enjoying my current role as senior  research scientist at AstraZeneca and I continue to learn and grow.

In my free time, I tutor chemistry and use my industrial experience and skills to teach and inspire the future generation of scientists through the STEM ambassador programme.
