Start by changing your mindset

I am going to share with you how exactly you can change you mind set to create the career path that you want by  leveraging your subconscious mind.

Start with a postive mind set

“You are today the result of your thoughts of yesterday, and the many yesterday’s preceding it. You are forming today the mold for what you will be in the years to come” – Robert Collier.

The difference between subconscious mind and conscious mind

The conscious mind is where your creativity and inspirations come. It consists of the thoughts you are aware of, the memories of your past experiences, your desires and wishes.

The subconscious mind on the other hand is a habitual mind. Behaviours you have mastered and execute on daily without necessary paying attention.

Our subconscious mind automatically takes over in situations where our conscious mind is lost in thinking. For example, let us take a scenario when you are engrossed in an activity like cleaning but at the same time you mind wonders off and you start thinking of your homework and how you are going to accomplish it.

Although part of you is absorbed in your thinking, you can do the cleaning because the subconscious mind takes over the cleaning activity. The takeaway point is whatever is stored in your subconscious mind will manifest in your life.

Dr Joseph Murphy, author of The Power of Your Subconscious Mind and one of the pioneers affirmative thinking, explains how our subconscious mind simply accepts what we consciously believe. He goes on to say, “Your subconscious mind is like the soil, which accepts any kind of seed, good or bad”. We are gardeners, planting seeds (thoughts) in our subconscious mind based on our habitual thinking. We only grow seeds that we plant in our mind.

Dr Joseph Murphy further explains that the conscious and subconscious mind work in collaboration and that they must agree. The subconscious mind will only accept the dominant idea that feels true.

If you believe you are not smart enough, the subconscious mind is going to accept what you believe. Empower yourself by feeding your subconscious mind with positive beliefs. Replace negative thoughts like, I am not smart enough with, I will do whatever I can to be successful.

Clarity is the Key, to getting the results you want: Leverage your subconscious mind.

“When I look at the future, it’s so bright it burns my eyes!” ― Oprah Winfrey

Set you goals and be extremely specific with what you want.  Create a clear mental image of where you see yourself in the future.  What does a successful career mean to you?  Does it mean having a job that pays you highly or a job that you enjoy doing and allows you to bring value to other people’s lives.  Once you have your metal vision, keep it at the fore front of your mind.  Your dominant idea should be success not failure.

Get rid of the fears and the metal blocks.

As often said fear is man’s greatest enemy. We are most afraid of our past and future. What if I do not pass exams? what if I do not get accepted by the university of my choice? what if I do not get that perfect job?  I don’t want to fail again.

Notice how the mind is reviving the past and rehearsing the future. The mind is a great instrument but if not used correctly it can be destructive. Put the focus on the present, focus on your goal and take one step at a time.  Like martin Luther king Jnr once stated, you do not have to see whole stare case, just take the first step.

Fear is just another thought in your mind. Pay attention to your thoughts and be aware that these are only thoughts that are created by the mind not a reality. You can choose to rise above and beyond these thoughts.

I love reading and listening to Eckhart Tolle teachings, this has changed my life tremendously.  Eckhart Tolle is one of the greatest spiritual teachers and author of the The Power of Now: A guide to Spiritual Enlightenment. In this book he teaches us how we can free ourselves from fear and suffering by being present and connecting to our inner stillness.

Just to give you a glimpse, start listening to the internal dialogues that pop up in your head.  These may arise in a form of fear or negative thinking. Once they arise acknowledge them but do not dwell on them.

Instead divert your attention to your breath and other sensory perceptions.  Feel your breath, the air flowing in and out of your nose. Listen to the sounds around you and the silence beyond the sounds.   This will stop the stream of thought sand you will experience a brief moment of inner peace.   Whenever you realise that you caught up in a stream of negative thoughts, repeat, repeat repeat the above practice to train your subconscious mind.  Eventually you will learn to free up yourself from the mental noise and create space for useful thoughts
